Oh hey, results, nice to see you again...

So its only been one day, but I stepped on the scale this morning and had lost 1.2lbs! Considering I havent been able to get the scale to budge in ages (at least in the down-direction), this was very exciting!

Last night for dinner I made Turkey Parmesan, a low-carb recipe I found here:

http://www.food.com/recipe/turkey-parmesan-south-beach-phase-1-188073

However, apparently in south philly, they don't eat pine nuts, and I couldn't find them at the grocery store, so I did cheat and use bread crumbs, but it wasn't THAT much of a coating, so I didn't feel terribly guilty about it. Although I was really very curious as to what ground up pine nuts would taste like, as a bread crumb substitute, so I'll be attempting that one again soon. Jerry had some pasta with his, which seemed to be an easy compromise.

While on a fruitless pine-nut search, I did manage to stock up on things like string cheese, pepperoni, 100-cal packs of almonds, etc. So I'm feeling much more prepared to attack this thing head on!

I decided I'm going to keep track of calories too, I know on low-carb you are just supposed to throw caution to the wind with regard to calories, but I feel I need to keep an eye on it just in case.

Oh! And I also made mashed cauliflower with butter, garlic, chives, and bacon to have for lunch today (also known as, "my coworkers are going to LOVE me"), I'm excited to try it, it smelled deelish.

My energy level isn't so bad, I even got up for the gym this morning and did a quick 20-minute run on the treadmill, so this feels very do-able.

BEST NEWS OF ALL: I bought a crock-pot last night. I'm super excited to use it, I've never had one in my entire life, or even used one. But the idea of coming home and dinner being cooked already, is the greatest thing ever.

Ok, time for more string cheese....

Day 1

I should've probably prepared for this a bit more, but, no time like the present, right? My pantry and fridge are both still chock full of carb-loaded items.
*sidebar: according to the LoseIt app, about 80% of what I eat is carbs. scary!

Usually starting a diet is a mental game, getting things ready for it, planning meals, etc.....but part of me feels like I need to spend less time planning, more time doing!

So far today I had some scrambled egg beaters for breakfast, and a salad full of meat for lunch (also known as a chef salad). I was craving chocolate like mad, so I got a skinny white mocha latte at starbucks (i'm not sure if it has carbs, i'll figure that one out later).
I'm hoping to make this turkey recipe I found online for dinner tonight, and hoping my loving boyfriend doesnt grumble about how its "healthy" (because its really not, it just won't have pasta or bread with it...)

maybe tonight i'll get the pantry in order, and stash it away for when I rejoin the carb-world!

The 30 Pound Challenge......annd....GO!

So, my 30th birthday is quickly approaching (well, October, but thats fast enough!), and I've decided to challenge myself to lose 30lbs by then. Why, you ask? Well, if you see my other blog you'll notice that I was once an amazing marathon runner (ok, more like, a regular slow person trying to run a marathon), it was great, I ran it in 5:01, and had a blast! But then, a month later, I tore my lisfranc ligament, needed foot surgery, and was laid up in a cast for almost 6 months. And even after that, I wasn't up and running marathons....

So guess what happened? Despite my best efforts of tracking points, counting calories, and what have you.....30 pounds slowly creeped up on me in less than a year!

So now its time to do something about it. for real this time. I tried Nutrisystem a few months ago, and GAINED 3lbs. Body Fail.

This morning I'm starting a South Beach- like, low-carb diet, and excited for some results already. I'm also going to be bumping up the exercise and weight training, because I apparently have zero metabolism without exercise.

I'm going to use this blog to vent about what I'm eating, frustrations, successes (lets hope), and weigh-in every friday morning. I'm hoping, even if no one out on the interwebs reads this, that itll keep me accountable and on track!
